Michiel Alewijnse is an associate at MESA family business consultants. Michiel studied economics at the University of Groningen where he graduated on private enterprise financing. After his studies, he worked at Fokker Aircraft’s marketing department for three years. However, entrepreneurship in the family business was calling him and he followed his father to successfully lead the Alewijnse Group, a technical ET and IT service provider with 900 employees, for 15 years. Through his own experiences and the many contacts with other family businesses, he became fascinated by the subject of family business. He coached family companies in transition phases and was co-founder and chairman of FBNed, the association of family companies in the Netherlands, for three years. In 2002, he decided to focus entirely on consulting family companies in the area of strategy, ownership and administrative organization. In 2005 he was co-founder of MESA family business consultants.
In addition to the management of some executive functions and supervisory board members, Michiel Alewijnse regularly publishes articles on change in family companies and lectures and gives workshops at universities and business schools. He is a member of the Advisory Board of the European Family Business Institute (Erasmus University) and the OECD Focus Group on Corporate Governance for Non Listed Companies.
